As much as we love the Ergo Baby....
This thing doesn't really fit very well and is hard to get in place. We watched the video over and over...this insert thing just frustrated us.
It's very floppy / flimsy and really doesn't provide any support for the babies head (which is why we thought it would be good to have)
We ended up using a lightweight fleece blanket about 2-1/2 foot square. I don't think you need this - it's really just for the first few weeks anyways.

When I bought my ergo at a children's used/new store today I was so excited to take it home and try it on, but when I got home I wasn't happy, I'm kinda "chunky" and the ergo didn't fit! I LOVE this carrier. My twins are over 2, and I have been using an Ergo, constantly since they were about 3 months. We use it in place of a double stroller, since space is an issue. I don't own a car, so we do A LOT of running around with the ERGO!
I have used Bjorns and Hotslings, and can honestly say this is BY FAR the best!!! I do like the "Sport" version a bit more than the original; it's more streamlined, less bulky, much cooler, lighter, and more washable. It's a drag, though that they lost the zip pocket from the orig, which was always very handy.
Pros-
Seats almost ALL of baby's weight on your hips, not your back and shoulders. I've worn my 20+lb son in it for 4-6 hours at a time, without pain or strain, no kidding.
Great for hiking!
Feels very secure, with baby snugged right up, no slipping around
EXCELLENT, sturdy hardware
Easily adjustable, and stays adjusted... no fiddling.
Baby's feet and legs don't turn blue from hanging from his crotch(like the bjorn!)
Comfy, happy baby falls asleep easily in carrier.
Versatile! Baby can be worn front or back, and can be carried from nearly brand new babe-bouncing, big toddler, COMFORTABLY!

I have used the bjorn carrier for the last two years. I bought this carrier because I need a back carrier. I have two children 26 months and 12 months. The 12 month old I have carried in the bjorn until recentley when my back began hurting due to his weight. I looked for many different carriers. I had hoped this one would work. It is very difficult to put on by yourself. It is hot. To put it on your baby has to be somewhat cooperative. I also tried it as a front carrier it was difficult to hook the strap in the back. I am so disappointed because I love using carriers.

We were going to purchase the Bjorn. However, I read a review that discussed the problems of the ergonomics of the Bjorn. Specifically, the Bjorn keeps your baby in place by letting him hang by his/her crotch. Take a look at the pictures if you don't believe me!
Well, the Ergo Carrier takes a much different approach. The Ergo holds the child by his/her bottom. The baby sits in the pouch and his legs hang over the sides. Makes sense, right? If your baby is a newborn, not to worry. You can still use this carrier. Put a blanket behind your baby's head to support it. We didn't buy the newborn attachment and the blanket works just fine.
Finally, here is the most important feature of the carrier: the hip belt! This carrier is designed like a backpack to put the weight of your child on your hips instead of on your shoulders and neck. Look at the Bjorn--the baby hangs off your shoulders. I wouldn't want to endure that all day!
Buck the trend and buy this one! You'll be much happier!

Cobalt Carriers mistakenly sent us the wrong item, which happens, but because they are such a tiny enterprise with hardly any customer service capabilities, it took 6 weeks for them to work out how to return the item and get us refunded; we were not able to do an exchange, only a lengthy return. Now the baby is 7 weeks old and we are just now getting our new carrier from another company...we couldn't risk ordering from Cobalt again...but as for the carrier, it is excellent.
