If I could give this product six stars I would. I have been through a lot of carriers. I have tried tie on ones, slings, free standing backpacks, and more. We go on a lot of park hikes with our now two year old, who just can't make it the whole way or up the steep hills. We bought this carrier to try it out in hopes it would do better than all the others we had tried. It's fantastic! My son loves sitting in it (and he's a busy boy who'd rather be running). His weight doesn't pull on my shoulders like others because it's designed just like a backpack with a strap around the hips where all the weight is distributed. I was worried that my figure wouldn't allow me to snap the buckle across the chest, but it isn't even needed. I haven't tried washing it yet, we've only used it four times. Hopefully it will hold up in a washing and cleaning, but I might even dry clean this just so it will last longer. I love it.

After only one use of the Patapum toddler-sized carrier, I knew it was an excellent buy. It is considerably more comfortable than the infant-sized Snugli we used when our child was smaller. The positioning of the child is superb! Even my mother-in-law, who has back problems is able to use this to carry our child who weighs around 30 lbs and is 33" long. Regardless of whether we place her on our back or chest, she sits on the hip support, which absorbs the majority of her weight. If we ever have another child, I hope to purchase the infant-sized Patapum carrier and toss the Snugli.

This is an excellent backpack carrier! I can easily carry my 27lb toddler for hours without any back pain! I bought this carrier when my son was about 1.5 I was easily able to get him on my back by myself using the hip loading to back carry method. It takes me less time getting him on my back then it does to get the stroller out of the back of my car and opened up. The waist belt is great for us fluffier Mama. I really don't know why it's called a waist belt because it's suppose to be worn down on your hips, so that they(not your shoulders are carrying your baby's weight. To ensure I am wearing it properly I actually wear the shoulder straps super loose so that I remember to make sure I have the "waist" belt in the proper location. Anytime anyone asks me for a super easy back carrier I recommend this. My first time out with it was for a 3 hour zoo trip and I worn my son the entire time! He would see everything, he ate back there and slept back there. The only down point for this carrier is front carries. Although you may be able to wear a smaller child in the front carrier position(just an assumption because my son was older when I purchased) It was so uncomfortable wearing my toddler in the front carry position. My back and shoulders were killing me(I only did it once and have never done it again-he was 2 yrs old/23lbs at the time)
The carrier does have a bit of a learning curve, just because you have to get use to threading the child's legs through the straps(on the bottom-I guess it's some sort of safety thing) and figuring out the most comfortable way for you to get baby on your back if your not an experienced babywearer, but there are lots of videos on the internet to help you with that.

I prefer the Ergo to this carrier for back carry's and heavier babies. Too many straps to figure out. I sold mine on Craigs List after a few uses.

Love this carrier! My 10 month old is pushing 25 lbs and not walking yet, so I needed something to save the day. This is it. Easy to get him in, rolls up into my bag/stroller when not in use. Errands, cooking, light housekeeping, a nice walk -- all are a breeze with this on. My husband is 6'4" and broad shouldered, I'm petite, but this works comfortably for both of us. Can't say enough good things about it. Not sure how I got through without it!
