The ERGO is the way to go when it comes to baby carriers. It's the best all around choice for carrying a baby anywhere from around the house to public places. The ERGO baby carrier is conveniently compact, comfortable to wear and provides sturdy support for your baby. The ergonomic design of the carrier ensures that your baby is in the correct sitting position to encourage proper hip, pelvis and spine growth. It does this by distributing most of the baby's weight between its hips and thighs. The design also considers the health and comfort of parents. The carrier balances the baby's weight to the parents' hips and shoulders, reducing physical stress. The padded waist belt supports the lumbar area plus 1" thick padding in the shoulder straps. It can be worn on front, back or hip and can easily be changed from one to the other. Ergo is perfect for when baby is too heavy for a sling or for when you plan on carrying your baby for extended periods of time, especially for hiking and walking. Unlike other frame back packs, with the ERGO the baby is right against your back so their weight seems less. When carrying a traditional hard frame back pack, your baby's center of gravity is further from your body and can be awkward and feel heavier. For comfortably carrying your infant, try the ERGO Infant Insert (sold separately). It supports your newborn like a baby sling while having both hands free to work. This lightweight carrier lets you carry your baby comfortably for long periods with your hands free and it looks great too. Features: Recommended use from newborn (with additional Infant Insert sold separately) up to 40 lbs Adjusts for most sizes, waist circumference extends from 25" up to 43" Attached Sleeping Hood supports sleeping baby's head and expands with the growth of your child Convenient pocket on back of carrier with side zipper for easy acce

"It's ok for toddlers but gets very HOT!" 2009-09-28
By Amanda G. Harbison (Huntsville, AL)
I purchased mine with infancy insert. Don't bother with the insert. It is too uncomfortable for the baby to use this product. Wait until your baby is at least 4 months or older. By the time mine was 4 months we were both burning up when I wore it around shopping and also underneath his legs would have red marks. I did exactly as the video said to do. We do however live in the south. The summers are usually around 95 degrees. I think since the time I purchased mine ergo came out with a lighter version. I purchased the organic with fanny pack and backpack. Without putting any of the extras on it is still way to hot. I would say to everyone this is a much better product for an older baby and for cooler days say around 70 degrees and under. A screaming sweating baby makes a crazy parent. I've just had my second baby and I'm ordering the Kelty 1.0 this time. It has great reviews so far.

 "Great Carrier!" 2009-09-27

I tried slings and other front carriers, and was never comfortable with them. I borrowed this from a friend to try out before spending the money on it, and it was worth it right away. With this, I've gone hiking, trekked through the airport, and gone on sight-seeing tours with my son. It's sturdy and comfortable, and he's content in it (has even slept in it, although I recommend snapping the head cover somewhat tight, as his head rolled back scary-quick the first time he fell asleep in it). I prefer having my son on the front, I don't feel as stable with him on my back, but that may be b/c I can't tell what he's doing. My husband prefers carrying him on his back. It's really easy to get on with a helper, I think with some practice I could do it myself. Supposedly it adjusts for hip carriage also, but we never really figured out how to do that. It holds a small amount of stuff (I've shoved a diaper, wipes, wallet and keys in it for quick trips). The waist strap is wide and comfortable, and an extension piece is available to make it longer (we have this too, it's also very nice).

 "Great carrier!" 2009-09-25
By K. van de Ven (Pasadena, CA)
I had two carriers/slings before this that I used on a regular basis and liked, but once I got this one it's the only one I use! My daughter loves it and stays in it for long stretches of time, and I feel like her back is supported very nicely.

The hood is great for naps as well as sun protection. Love the zip pocket in front too for keys etc.

Worth the money!

"Use it all the time and love it!" 2009-09-08

Many know my husband and I so love the outdoors and hiking, so we were given more than one backpack. We have 2 small backpack style child carriers for a smaller child, a sling (also for when he was smaller), and one of those nice big ones with the metal frame. Our son is now too big for the smaller ones. The metal frame child carrier is great, but my back ends up hurting after awhile, and it really is so big if you have limited space for traveling. The ergo is wonderful!!! So super comfortable. So super easy to use. And great for small spaces. I use it all the time - from that quick run into the gas station to pay for the gas, to grocery shopping, rehearsing with the worship team, and yes hiking too. I am a lucky gal in that I don't sweat too bad, so I have no complaints about the heat from him being so close to me in the carrier. And I don't care enough of what others think to care about my bulging gut hanging over the waist strap. I just can't think of a single thing I don't like. My son seems perfectly comfortable in it - whether I'm wearing it or my husband is. He's even taken a nap during a long walk through the woods. :) And now he's not trying hard to get out of my arms to get into everything on the shelves at the stores... I absolutely love this thing! Money well spent. ;)

 "Ergo Baby Carrier" 2009-08-09

I purchased the Ergo baby Carrier as a gift from a relative's baby registry. She is delighted with the carrier, especially the feature of being able to carry the baby in the front or the back.
